Dianna Carrizales-Engelmann, Ph.D. is currently a lecturer at the University of Oregon, specializing in performance assessment for teacher preparation. Over the course of her time in the field of education, Dianna has maintained a consistent focus in the development, research, and trouble-shooting of educational assessment. Dianna’s assessment development experience includes state assessments, nationally standardized assessments of achievement, and classroom and curriculum based assessments. In addition to her role in the field of educational assessment, Dianna has had several years of policy-related experience related to education and assessment at the Oregon Department of Education.

Laura L. Feuerborn, PhD, NCSP is an Associate Professor at the University of Washington, Tacoma. Dr. Feuerborn received her PhD in School Psychology from the University of Oregon in 2004, and joined the University of Washington, Tacoma faculty in 2006. Dr. Feuerborn has both research and teaching expertise in the field of social, emotional, and behavioral supports across the levels of the student, the teacher, and the system. Dr. Feuerborn developed—and now teaches—coursework for practicing teachers in social and emotional learning (SEL) and systems change. She also teaches positive behavior supports, collaboration and consultation, and mentors graduate students in the development and completion of their degree capstone projects. Like her teaching, her research and publications focus on SEL and systems change, particularly in relation to positive behavior supports in secondary schools. She is lead author of the Staff Perceptions of Behavior and Discipline (SPBD) needs assessment tool (see companion website www.spbdsupport.com for more information). Recently, Dr. Feuerborn spent her sabbatical living on a university campus in China, collaborating with teachers, researchers, and clinicians throughout Southeast Asia to support their SEL efforts. Dr. Feuerborn frequently presents her works at conferences and partners with schools to help them manage resistance to change and scale-up positive discipline practices and SEL.

Barbara Gueldner, PhD, MSE, NCSP is a licensed psychologist in Colorado who specializes in working with children, families, and community agencies. Throughout the course of her career, she has focused on finding, developing, and facilitating effective ways to promote children’s development and well-being. Dr. Gueldner has worked in several community settings including public and private schools, a university-based clinic, two large pediatric primary care clinics, inpatient medical and psychiatric clinics at Children’s Hospital Colorado, and private practice, and served as visiting assistant professor at the University of Oregon. She consults with community agencies who work with children and teaches parenting classes related to Emotion Coaching. Her research, publications, and workshops focus on social and emotional learning, childhood mental health and prevention, internalizing problems, school-based interventions, SEL, and ways adults can facilitate children’s emotional development. In addition to Merrell’s Strong Kids and Strong Teens curriculum, she is co-author of the book, Social and Emotional Learning in the Classroom.

Dr. Oanh Tran is an Associate Professor in the School Psychology Program at California State University, East Bay. She mentors and teaches graduate students toward earning an MS Degree, a credential, and hours for the Marriage and Family Therapy license. She received her Ph.D. from the University of Oregon in 2007, with an emphasis in children’s mental health. She also works as a School Psychologist in the San Francisco, Bay Area. Dr. Tran’s clinical experience includes working with diverse and at-risk populations in public and nonpublic schools as well as residential, foster care, outpatient, and in-home settings. Her clinical work involves conducting assessments and developing a model of support for clients. Dr. Tran's research and professional interests include promoting social and emotional learning, academic and behavioral consultation and assessment, special education, response to intervention, positive behavioral supports, and parent-training. She has presented locally and nationally and has published articles, chapters, and prevention curricula in the area of children's mental health. Dr. Tran collaborates with schools and communities to enhance academic and emotional learning for K-12 students.
